The JUiCE HIP HOP DANCE FESTIVAL will showcase "...the local hip-hop community in all its multifaceted athleticism..." (Lewis Segal, L.A. Times). Artistic Directors Amy “Catfox” Campion and Jacob “Kujo” Lyons bring together street dance choreographers from in and around Los Angeles to display the cutting edge of hip hop dance and culture.
“The JUiCE HIP HOP DANCE FESTIVAL is about celebrating creativity and innovation within all street dance forms. Dance is super hot on TV and in the movies right now. We take the audience straight to the source of street dance and hip hop culture with DJ’s, live music, live graffiti art, and the best hip hop dancers from Los Angeles,” says Amy “Catfox” Campion, Artistic Director.
Street dance is an umbrella term used to describe dance styles (popping, locking, breaking, house dance, krumping, hip hop, etc.) that evolved outside of dance studios in everyday spaces such as streets, school yards and nightclubs since the 1970’s. They are often improvisational and social in nature, with roots in African American and Latino culture and each style is frequently associated with a specific genre of music.
The JUiCE HIP HOP DANCE FESTIVAL features the talents of DJ Orator and TOQUON of Soul Elevation, Antics Performance, Get Down Dolls, Lux Aeterna, Outer Circle, West Bound, and a dance film by Alexander “Journey” Mercado. JUiCE HIP HOP DANCE FESTIVAL features a full evening of hip hop culture for the whole family including pre-show music by DJ Orator from KPFK’s Divine Forces Radio and MC TOQUON of Soul Elevation, live graffiti painting by J.U.i.C.E. artists, and a hip hop marketplace.
JUiCE HIP HOP DANCE FESTIVAL is produced by Antics Performance and J.U.i.C.E. (Justice Uniting in Creative Energy), a non-profit community youth organization focused on youth empowerment and education through the hip hop arts. |
