Amphitheatre House Staff (Ushers and Ticket Takers)

The Ford is accepting applications for Ushers and Ticket Takers to work at the over 100 performances presented at the Ford Amphitheatre each summer. Typical duties include assisting with front-of-house operations, tearing tickets, passing out programs, crowd control, monitoring entry points, seating patrons and responding to patron inquiries with an emphasis on good customer service. Candidates must have a working knowledge of current front-of-house service standards and protocols and be able to work a flexible schedule. Bilingual candidates are especially sought. Ideal candidates will have a hands-on, can-do work ethic, good communication skills and be able to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, exciting environment. Experience working as an usher or in customer service in a similar environment is preferred, but training is provided for exceptional candidates.

Box Office Staff (Seasonal)

The Ford Amphitheatre seeks customer service oriented box office staff to provide quality patron service at our beautiful 1,245 seat outdoor venue in the Hollywood Hills which hosts over 120 performing arts events May through October. Several positions available. Must be available to work evenings and weekends. Bilingual English/Spanish skills are preferred but not required. Ideal candidates will be personable, outgoing, computer savvy, extremely reliable and punctual and have previous cash handling and/or box office experience.

This is a seasonal part-time opportunity.

Group Sales and Assistant Box Office Manager

The Los Angeles County Arts Commission operates the County-owned John Anson Ford Amphitheatre and [Inside the Ford] Theatre in Hollywood. The Ford is home to a summer series with over 100 events in a 1250-seat outdoor amphitheatre and 87-seat indoor black box from May to October. Ford management seeks a detail-oriented, people friendly individual to fill the following position of Group Sales and Assistant Box Office Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will be responsible for executing sales programs in group tickets and related picnic, dinner, or party packaging at the theatre and will assist the Box Office Manager in overall box office operations. Duties include: working with Ford presenting partners and the Director of Communications to identify and maximize cooperative ticket sale opportunities; identifying and pursuing strategic opportunities for capturing new volume ticket sales from targeted communities; contacting group sales targets based on leads and a group sales database; assisting with the development of group sales related print and electronic materials; taking and processing ticket orders, capturing customer data, and providing financial and sales reports; responding to customers’ general inquiries and requests for season brochures; scheduling part-time and on-call employees and supervising and training seasonal staff on ticketing systems; assuming lead responsibilities in the absence of the Box Office Manager.

Minimum requirements:

    • One or more years of hands-on box office experience
    • One or more years of pro-active sales experienc
    • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
    • Knowledge and experience with ticketing systems
    • Strong organizational and communication skills
    • A customer service orientation
    • Ability to interface with diverse arts organizations and audiences
    • Flexible schedule and ability to work evening and weekends

Candidates with supervisory experience and bilingual ability in Spanish preferred.

This is a full-time contract with a range of $32,000 - $37,000.

House Manager

The Ford Amphitheatre seeks an experience, qualified House Manager for the summer season. The House Manager will oversee house staff and patron services and ensure the smooth operation of event logistics at all performances May through October. Responsibilities include coordination of gates and house opening, assigning house staff and security staff posts and breaks, overseeing merchandise and VIP activities, and coordinating the efforts of maintenance, production, box office and parking staff. The House Manager must also maintain accurate records of attendance and other event details for reporting purposes. Ideal candidates will be personable, extremely reliable and have at least one year of previous House Management experience in a similar environment. Possibility of continued employment through the winter season in the 87-seat black box theatre located on site. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Ford Amphitheatre Master Electrician

The historic John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, a 1245-seat open air theatre set in the Hollywood Hills hosting over 100 performing arts events each summer, is seeking a Master Electrician for its 2006 Summer Season. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years experience in theatrical performing arts venues in "road house" settings, with excellent planning, scheduling, organizing and communication (verbal, written, and electronic) skills. The position is responsible for execution of the Ford's season repertory lighting plot; typical duties include supervision of the lighting hang, circuiting, patching, focusing and maintenance. The Master Electrician will be responsible for supervising an Assistant Electrician and will be required to start-up and shut-down the lighting control and power systems on an event by event basis. The Master Electrician will need the ability to work with both relatively inexperienced event producers and seasoned professionals, and their lighting designers, to tailor the repertory plot to the needs of each event and to program control cues. The Master Electrician will occasionally have design opportunities within the repertory plot for individual events. A working knowledge of current industry standards in theatre, video and film lighting equipment, including operation of computerized lighting systems, is required. Position also requires a working knowledge of power structures typically found in performance venues (e.g., multiphase, high amperage, high voltage circuits). Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and climb to heights over 10 feet. Must be able to work safely and efficiently. Ideal candidates will be experienced theatrical lighting professionals with a hands-on, can-do work ethic, good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a high-paced, exciting environment.

Typical duties include assisting with the load-in, set-up, running, strike and load-out of events. Candidates must have a working knowledge of current industry standards and equipment, including contemporary lighting and audio systems, be able to lift 50 lbs, and be able to climb to heights over 10 feet. Must be able to work safely and efficiently. Ideal candidates will have a hands-on, can-do work ethic, good communication skills and be able to work both independently and as part of a team in a high-paced, exciting environment.

College Student Internships Summer 2007

Summer internships are full-time positions offering opportunities to work in the following areas:

Eligibility:
• Students must be currently enrolled in a community college, four-year college or university program.
• Students must be undergraduates and not scheduled to graduate before December 2007.
• Students must either reside in Los Angeles County or attend school in Los Angeles County.

The intern will participate in the Los Angeles County Arts Internship Program beginning May-June 2007 and concluding in August-September 2007.

Compensation:
Interns will be provided a stipend of $350 per week for a 40-hour workweek for 10 weeks during the summer.

Teen Summer Internsihps

Through a unique partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks initiated in 2003, teens can participate in a special summer internship program at the Ford. As part of the City of Los Angeles CLASS Parks Youth Employment Internship Program (YEIP), teens assist at the Ford by ushering and providing other patron services. Besides the opportunity to develop job skills, through this program teens also get a behind the scenes look at theatre operations, have an opportunity to see performances representing a cross-section of Los Angeles' arts and cultural scene, and receive a stipend at the end of the summer for their work.
